Networking

Assumptions In This Section

I am assuming in this section that you are already connected to a network.

Learning More About Networking

This section will show you how to copy files from your computer to another computer on a network.  I will not attempt to teach everything there is to know about networking.  However, I can point you in the right direction if your desire is to learn more about it.  There are several books out there on networking for the novice such as you and I.  For example, few easy to understand books on networking are "Networking for Dummies", and "The Idiots Guide to Networking" are a few.  These books are not like the normal "technical" book.  Instead, these books are designed for people like you and I that do not understand much about the technical side but would like simple terms and definitions on how the network works and how to use and benefit from it.

Transferring Files On A Network

Transferring files on a network is the same as transferring files from folder to folder on your own computer.  Click here to get a refresher course on transferring files and folders on your computer.  Otherwise, read on.

  1. Double click on the icon.

  1. Locate the folder that you wish to transfer.

  2. At the top of the screen, click on or go to Edit | Copy.  This will copy the file to the clipboard.

Once you have copied the file:

  1. Close out the window.  (You should now be back to your desktop.)

  2. Double click on the icon.  A dialog will appear showing every computer that is turned on and is attached to your network.

  1. Double click the computer that you wish to copy your files to.

This will open up the computer and show you all of the available folders.

  1. Locate the folder in which you wish to store your files.

  2. At the top of the screen, select or select Edit | Paste.

The information will be pasted into the desired folder.
