All About IRQ's
If you are not using the PCI card to run your engraving machine, then the APU card will utilize an IRQ from your computer. Follow the steps below to see what IRQ settings are free in your computer.
From your desktop:
Select Start | Settings | Control Panel...
Double click on the icon.
In the system properties dialog select the Device Manager tab.
Be sure that Computer is highlighted (see below) and click on the button.
Computer Properties Dialog
We are now in the Computer Properties dialog. With the selected, look at the middle of the dialog. You will see a column titled Setting and a column titled Hardware Using the Setting. The numbers in the Settings column are the IRQ numbers that we are looking for. Each computer has 15 IRQ's that can be used. The column titled Hardware Using the Setting shows the hardware device that is currently using the IRQ.
Our APU card will only run on the following IRQ numbers: 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15. If you have an open IRQ but it is not one of the previously mentioned numbers, you must contact your computer manufacturer for instructions on changing IRQ's.
Setting the IRQ on the APU Card
Looking at the card shown below, you will sets of jumpers. Each jumper is set to a specific IRQ. To set the IRQ for the card, simply place a jumper in the proper slot that corresponds to the IRQ that is free in your computer.
There is nothing in the computer that needs to be set regarding IRQ's once the proper IRQ number is jumpered on the APU card.
