Using a Diamond Drag

A Diamond Drag Adaptor Kit is an alternative tool for drag engraving.  As opposed to a standard top load style cutter, the diamond drag attaches directly to the bottom of the micrometer.  The advantages to using a diamond drag adapter kit over a standard top load style diamond insert are better letter quality and prolonged spindle bearing life.

The diamond drag adapter kit consists of a threaded cone that screws onto the micrometer in the same way a nose cone or vacuum foot attaches. The bottom end of this cone has a small (0.125") hole in which a short diamond tipped bit (approximately 1.25" long) attaches.  The bit is held in place with a set screw.

If using a Diamond Drag Adapter Kit, it is best to rotate the micrometer all the way UP on the spindle. This removes any play induced by movement of a loose micrometer.  Failure to do so can cause poor letter quality.
